Provenance

Steinway drew it. The rescale finished it.

Boston is not a Steinway imitation. Steinway & Sons designed the line themselves, in 1992, for players who wanted their engineering without a Steinway price. The plate on this instrument says so in cast letters: designed by Steinway.

What sets this one apart is what was done to it. Rather than restring it like for like, the string scale was recalculated to a Steinway scale, with lengths, gauges and tension re-mapped across the bridge. Rescaling is uncommon in a restoration at this price, and it is the part you hear: more even tension from bass to treble, and a more balanced voice through the middle of the keyboard where you actually play.

Most restorations put a piano back the way it was. This one went further: the string scale was recalculated to a Steinway scale before it was restrung, which is a step almost nobody takes at this price.
